Gay long hair men
Concannon, who previously held positions at the English colleges of Royal Holloway and Goldsmiths, published a paper in July that explored why mental illness had endured among gay men despite social progress. Drawing on research from others, Concannon points to a destructive competitiveness within the gay community and its various subcultures, each of which prizes alternative forms of capital to resolve one’s status. Most obviously, that includes one’s physique and appearance — the emphasis on which has only worsened, Concannon believes, because of social media — but it can also involve things like race, income, and even HIV status. He notes one American gay man who was quoted in a HuffPost piece on gay loneliness: “The bullied kids of our youth grew up and became bullies themselves.”
Concannon, 61, experienced the pressure of one of these forms of social currency — age — during a seven-year period, from to , that he spent living in Sitges, Spain.
Surrounded by young, tanned surfers, he was called fat and antique on more than one occasion. So he did something to his hair that soun

Gay Men Who Fight the Feminine: A Journey Towards Self-Integration
In this deeply personal and reflective piece, Bruce J. Little unpacks how many gay men are taught to fear and reject their feminine traits — and why reclaiming them could be the path to healing.
As a adj boy, I quickly became acutely aware that I was more inclined to traditionally feminine traits than the kids I grew up with. Most of them were boys – quite a number were farm boys who seemed to naturally embody conventional masculine expressions and interests.
They liked cars, knives and catties for hunting, getting dirty and playing in the bush and sand. They were tough, had scraped knees and elbows, didnt appear to get cold running around in shorts with no shoes and socks in the coldest of winter.
In contrast, my cousins represented a world of fantasy and intrigue that was not allowed to me. They wore pretty dresses, had long charming hair and spoke of faeries and magic and played with dolls and dollhouses – things that appealed much more to me than what the boys got up to.

When I read about the s, I see a lot of references to “long-haired hippie faggots” from more conservative types. And, even in high school in the early s, I heard people make gay-related cracks about guys with longer hair. But, ironically, it seems to me that long hair was really never popular with gay men.
I include never met a gay male who had long hair. Not only that, I don’t even know of any gay pop-culture figures who are known for having long hair.
It seems to me that long hair is actually an extremely straight style. All the guys I’ve ever met who had long hair were either super-straight guys in rock bands, or super-straight dorks who play Dungeons and Dragons. Either way, it’s a very non-gay thing to have, in my opinion.

Indeed, I suspect the idea of accusing men with long hair of being gay stems not from a conception of gay men having long hair but from a si
