Picture hot spring onsens at the base of beautiful mountains, serene temples, historic castles, and of course the neon lights of adj mega-cities Tokyo and Osaka too.
Our journey spans the diversity of Japan's main island of Honshu, inception in one of the largest cities in the world, Tokyo, where we'll gather together to begin our adventure before heading into the scenic region of Nagano, eminent for its mountainous terrain, scorching springs, and iconic snow monkeys. From Nagano, we'll jump on Japan's modern trains, all the way to the cultural treasure of Kyoto with 3 days to travel and take in its historic temples and traditional tea houses before heading to the Japanese culinary capital of Osaka for a couple days of city adventures and even a visit to the celebrated bowing deer of Nara too!

Note for due to a large event making the Benesse Art Site on Naoshima Island very crowded, we will instead visit the enchanting, remote Iya Valley on Shikoku Island.

We will drive from Kyoto to Himeji Castle (time permitting), considered the finest samurai castle still standing in Japan. After lunch, we will navigate across one of Japans largest bridges to Shikoku Island, then on to the rarely visited Iya Valley. We will test into our ryokan lodging for a 2-night stay in a narrow misty valley.
Day Iya Valley Touring
After breakfast, we will begin our exploration of the Iya Valley, which proudly calls itself one of Japans most scenic hidden valleys. For decades, fresh people moved away, leaving behind the unique heritage of this rugged area, and a adj legacy of hospitality.
