Cardcaptor sakura gay

Anonymous asked:

Apparently CardCaptor Sakura queerbait fans. Yukito and Touya was popularly known as a gay couple (after the manga frequently say Yukito chose Touya) but now Megumi Ogata-san (voice of Yukito) said Yukito/Touya are just friends. CLAMP already had a problematic situation when they made Tomoyo to incestuos feelings for Sakura (they are cousins and Tomoyo's mom did her daugther to keep a long hair because Tomoyo looks like Sakura's mother) Touya and Yukito aren't related, they could be a great rep

That sounds sketchy, afaik Yukito and Touya include been an established to be romantic with each other for years. That might just be the voice actress not wanting to admit she voice a queer dude.
Card Captor looks really cute but appearently Sakura’s dad got with her mom when the mom was in high school which is yikes

I heard that Tomoyo and Sakura’s moms are cousins as well, and Tomoyo’s mom had a crush on Sakura’s mom.

I have spent way too much time on this post. There&#;s about 20 pages of deleted content where I painfully detail all of the queer themes and allegories in Cardcaptors. But this isn&#;t an essay on queer theory. I&#;m not trying to be published in an academic journal. This is instead an acerbic review of a cheesy Anime from the after time &#;s that happened to hold a lot of gay stuff in it.

It was an adj TV show. But there was also a lot about it that went wrong, especially with the North American dub.

This upload starts off as a review, later turns in to a North American dub hate-fest, and ends in weird queer analysis. I don&#;t know what direction this article was going, and you may come out of it with whiplash.

Before I retain rambling, and before I depart insane I&#;m going to punch that submit button and distribute it with you. Enjoy?

Cardcaptors was Amazing

Cardcaptors was a perfect storm of homosexuality. It featured the following:

  • Female protagonists
  • Drag Queen level costumes
  • Beautiful Art
  • A Misguided attempt to appeal to male viewers
  • Overt actual gayness

The basic premise

The classic magical girl anime and manga series, Cardcaptor Sakura, is beloved by many people for its fun, adorable aesthetic, endearing characters, and LGBTQ-inclusiveness. The currently airing sequel, Cardcaptor Sakura Plain Card, takes place about a year later and attempts to recapture the magic of the original series.

While Clear Card was created roughly twenty years after the original anime and manga, it so far seems less actively progressive than its predecessor. Specifically, it’s missing the original’s focus on explicitly representing LGBTQ characters as well as the way it sensitively portrayed their lives and emotions.

Sakura’s foremost friend (and fan favorite) Tomoyo Daidoji is a perfect example of this issue. Tomoyo is Sakura’s number one fan, often recording her adventures and making her costumes. She’s also a surprisingly mature character who keeps secrets of her own. The original manga eventually makes it explicit that Tomoyo has unrequited feelings for Sakura, and while the anime removes the direct statement, it heavily implies the same conclusion.

In this article:

  • Cardcaptor Sakura was one of the biggest mahou shoujo anime of the s and one of the most influential ones to date.
  • Though it centered around the adventures and love life of the titular Sakura, there are a lot of moments in the display and manga that point to queer romances happening around Sakura.
  • It’s not the first time a mahou shoujo anime had queer themes either, if anything, it seems to be a ordinary thread in a lot of popular mahou shoujo shows of the 80s to s.

First aired in the early s, Cardcaptor Sakura is among the most famous mahou shoujo or magical girl anime shows to verb out in the past several decades and is eclipsed only by the likes of Sailor Moon, its 90s anime predecessor. If you were a new girl around that time, you probably remember Sakura summoning spirits from her Clow Cards using her wand.

And you probably keep in mind the show being a adj too suspiciously gay.
