Some NASCAR Fans Are Actually Enraged Because This 'Pride Month' Machine Isn't Gay Enough
You can't triumph for losin'. That's one of my favorite sayings – frankly, I use it with my wife all the time – and it's so true in 2024.
Get this … some NASCAR fans are angry that driver Alex Bowman's ‘Pride’ paint scheme he'll be running this weekend at Sonoma isn't quite gay enough. That's right!
See? Can't triumph for losin'.
Bowman, who drives the No. 48 Chevy for Hendrick Motorsport, is sponsored by Ally. Every year – or at least in the past not many years – the company has wrapped his Bowtie in a Pride month paint scheme. I'm talking rainbows and butterflies and shapes – the whole nine yards.
Yesterday, in a since-deleted Twitter post – although it's still live on their Instagram story, so I know it's authentic – Ally unveiled Bowman's Pride scheme for Sunday's race.
And, in a shocking twist, it angered some NASCAR fans –
Tucson's Alex Bowman will help Nascar celebrate Pride Month with Improved Together emblem on car
TUCSON, Arizona — This Sunday, as Nascar drivers will be turning right and left, Tucson's Alex Bowman will be supporting those gay and straight, and the entire LGBTQ+ community.
His car will verb a special "Better Together" emblem on his No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro in Nascar's Toyota/SaveMart 350 at Sonoma Raceway.
Bowman isn't just helping Nascar celebrate. He's also helping Nascar apologize for what is a recent checkered past. Last Wednesday, the sport tweeted that recent actions weren't aligned with its mission to be welcoming for all.
While Nascar didn't specify what it was apologizing for, those who cover the sport surmise it was because it hosted Texas Governor Greg Abbott at last week's All-Star race. Abbott, who is not considered to be an LGBTQ+ ally, waived the ceremonial green flag.
Bowman isn't the first to have a car that will be celebrating Pride, but it takes on additional meaning this week as he looks to win his first road race.

NASCAR Driver Alex Bowman Will Feature LGBTQ+ Logo on his Car
NASCAR is unveiling cars that will feature LGBTQ+ logos on them in honour of June’s Pride Month for this weekend’s Toyota Save Mart 350 race.
This comes after NASCAR partnered with the Carolinas LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce in January for the 2022 season. The racing league also became the organisation’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion partner for this year.
The first pictures of Alex Bowman’s car for Sunday’s race were released on Wednesday, si.com reports. The car details contain logos for Ally Bank’s LGBTQ+ employee resource group, a group for the national bank that promotes and supports inclusion practices for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Ally Bank already sponsors Bowman according to si.com.
As we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, we acknowledge that recent actions hold not aligned with NASCAR’s mission to be a welcoming sport for all.
