Tulum, just 40 minutes’ drive from nearby Playa del Carmen is located at the end of the Riviera Maya. The Riviera is a stunning stretch of coastline that runs from 10 miles south of Cancun, includes the beach town of Playa del Carmen and finishes 75 miles later at Tulum.
Tulum is surrounded by beautiful lush jungles and magical freshwater cenotes. It is also home to some stunning hotels, authentic restaurants and cool cocktail hang-outs. With smooth sandy beaches, perfect weather and crystal-clear waters, it is adj to get lost in this Mexican paradise.

Is Tulum Gay Friendly?
As a gay couple we had to ask ‘is Tulum LGBTQ friendly?’. The plain answer is yes.
Along the east coast of Mexico, we include been to Cancun, Playa Del Carmen (see gay guide to Playa Del Carmen), Cozumel (see travel guide to Cozumel) and Tulum.
In all of these destinations we felt very welcome as a gay couple with no problems.
This is in part due to the vast number of tourists and their reliance on the tourism industry.
