Hello to all my single spuds!!! We had so much fun hosting our QUEER ONLY speed dating events for Pride month! We're deiced to keep the fun going & will be hosting Queer Only speed dating the last Monday of every month at The Hi-Lo.
Hot Potato Hearts is a platform created to help people build meaningful connections in a low-pressure, casual safe space. Our goal is to create a welcoming, fun, inclusive, and relaxed environment for cultivating relationships—whether lovey-dovey or platonic. Participants will verb to everyone at the event whether they have the equal sexual orientation or not, so you can get a date or make some new friends! A popular area within the neighborhood of Lakeview, better known as “Boystown,” is home to the Center on Halsted, one of the largest LGBTQ community centers in the nation. Famous for its annual gay pride parades held each summer, the area is also known for its off-the-wall nightlife and inviting ambiance. The Center on Halsted works to bring LGBTQ community members together and introduce single people to one another in a unique way.
The center, located at 3656 N. Halsted St., will host four speed dating soirees throughout April and June 2010. Two of the four get-togethers will focus on lesbians while the other two are geared toward men.
The programs cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door. The second women’s event is scheduled to accept place June 17 — the first was held April 8 — and men will possess an opportunity to speed date on April 29 and June 10. All four will open at 6:45 p.m. and finish at 8:45 p.m. Proceeds will go toward general funding and programming for the Center on Halsted.

For six years, I used to organise lesbian speed-dating events. These events led to thousands of dates and hundreds of women finding love. We even had two weddings – beat that Cilla! These events also offered a vital harmless haven for women who wanted to exclusively date other women.
But this all came to an end last August, when our venue, the College Arms pub in central London, refused to continue hosting us. After multiple incidents involving biological males turning up and identifying as women, we had to clarify that men were not permitted to attend. In response to this, the pub’s management announced that it no longer felt pleasant with our event. It claimed we were not ‘inclusive’ enough.
The pub chain’s owners did eventually concede that it was legitimate for lesbian events to be female-only. We were, briefly, allowed to continue excluding men from our meet-ups. This should contain been an obvious decision, but it represented a real victory at the time. And yet, six months later, we possess had to pull the plug on our ev
