Gina gershon gay

Gina Gershon's agents dropped her for playing 2 gay characters in a row. Then she became a queer icon.

Gina Gershon is a bit of an enigma — literally.

When she appears on Zoom for our interview, she's shrouded in darkness. "It looks like I'm in the witness protection program," she jokes. It's not clear where Gershon is calling in from, though it seems like it may be from her home, given her repeated interjections of "Hey, interrupt that!" to someone — maybe her beloved cat, Louie? — off-camera.

For someone who's been active consistently for decades since breaking through with a bit part in 's "Pretty in Pink,"remarkably little is known about her private life. And even more remarkably, people don't seem to pester her too often about stuff like where she lives, whether she's married, or if she has kids.

Gershon has become one of the rare actors — and the even rarer female actors — afforded the opportunity to vanish into her roles. It's exactly the career she always wanted, but not necessarily what everyone else planned for her.

Asthestar of one of the biggest camp classics of all time, Gina Gershon tells Larry King she's proud to be a gay icon.

When King asked Gershon -- who stars as Donatella Versace in Lifetime's forthcoming "House of Versace" -- about her gay following, the actress pointed to the impact "Showgirls" had on endearing her to the community.

"I think gays prefer me because of 'Showgirls' and because of 'Bound,'" she said. "Those two moviesI dunno, spoke to them and they liked me from there."

Calling her gay fans "extremely loyal," she recalled her experiences working on the "Showgirls" set with director Paul Verhoeven: "I was really obsessed with all of his Dutch films so I thought it was going to be so dark and intense. And then I got onto the put and I was like, 'Oh, wow, this is a different.'"

Gina Gershon Says &#;Small-Minded&#; Agents Told Her &#;You Can&#;t Play a Lesbian&#; in &#;Bound&#; Because &#;You Will Never Perform Again&#; and Ruin Your Career

Gina Gershon recently said on the &#;It Happened in Hollywood&#; podcast (via People) that she was warned against starring in &#;s &#;Bound&#; by her agents because the role was a lesbian character. The actor remembered her agents telling her specifically that she &#;can&#;t play a lesbian&#; because it would tank her Hollywood career.

&#;It was a great script and I could tell they were unbelievable directors, but my agents were like, &#;We will not enable you do this movie. You are ruining your career,'&#; Gershon said. &#;&#;We will not be able to let you portray. You will never work again.'&#;

&#;I just said, &#;Oh, well, I guess if you can&#;t represent me, I&#;ll move somewhere else.&#; You know? No hard feelings,&#; Gershon continued, noting that she fully believed in the script written by the Wachowskis. &#;I said, first of all, it&#;s so shortsighted to say, &#;Oh, this is a lesbian movie.&#; I m

Vagina. That's the first thing to come up during my recent interview with Gina Gershon, who goes full-frontal as Sharla in the awesomely twisted "Killer Joe."
The actress plays a trashy two-timer who gets caught in the middle of a family's murder plot when they hire a hit man (Matthew McConaughey) to take out their mother to collect the life insurance money. Just minutes into the movie, and there she is – all of her.
We got Gershon on the phone to chat about her crotch coat, the agent that almost stopped her from playing a lesbian in one of her most lady-loved films and why she really wishes she were gay.

Are you sick of talking about your vagina yet?
You mean my merkin? I never get adj of talking about my merkin.

Did you name your merkin?
Yes, I believe I was calling my merkin Bertha – a big, heavy-set merkin. Generate room for Bertha! She's ready for her close-up.

This isn't the first time you've been part of a movie that was rated NC Do you think the MPAA has been fair to the movies you've starred in?
Listen, I assume the whole rating system is unfair. It's
